Resistograph Testing & AirSpade

Many seemingly healthy, vigorous trees have hidden defects. These trees are often the ones that fail during extreme weather conditions - hurricanes, wind, ice and snowstorms. Never before have we had a more scientific method of identifying potential tree trunk failure.

The Resistograph is a new, state-of-the-art tool that helps us assess tree owners' risk verses benefits of their most valuable landscape plants, their large trees. Minute holes (3 millimeters) are drilled into the trunk at various locations and a paper graph is developed simultaneously to the drilling, with a multitude of data. The immediate interpretation of the graph can detect hollow areas in the trunk and identify decaying areas of reduced trunk strength.

AirSpade techniques permit the safe viewing of the root system, providing a comprehensive picture of the tree's health. This enhanced detection, combined with other hazard tree evaluation guidelines, can more accurately help identify trees with high potential for structural failure. These tool can be especially useful in evaluating trees where healthy appearing large trees grow near business, play and parking areas.
